He said he would be recording vocals for the track
Britain’s Got Talent finalist Jamie Lee Harrison has been strongly criticised for claiming he is going to be featured on Simon Cowell’s charity single to raise funds following London’s horrific Grenfell Tower fire.
At least 30 people were killed after a huge blaze burnt out the entire 24-storey building locating in the city’s Kensington.
Shocked onlookers watched as people jumped from the building and parents threw their children out of the windows on a bid to save lives.
Hours after the terrible news broke, record company boss and BGT boss Simon announced plans t reel a song to raise money for the victims by releasing a cover of Simon & Garfunkel hit Bridge Over Troubled Water by enlisting the help of a host of stars.
Singer Jamie, who made it to the finals of the last series of Britains Got Talent, told the Daily Mail he would be recording vocals for the track, which is apparently not true.
Vocalists that are in the rumoured line-up include Louis Tomlinson, Liam Payne and Robbie Williams among others.
A music business source told the newspaper: “This is really disgusting. Hopefully it wasn’t meant how it seems because it seems like Jamie Lee thought he could get a bit of publicity over the Grenfell Tower tragedy.
“When you think about it, it’s pretty heartbreaking someone would stoop so low when the single is for such a good cause.”
His agent told the publication: “Jamie has been in London all week and was near the fire when it happened. He’s been working on his album and wants to get involved.”
Jamie later changed his story and said he had simply tweeted Simon Cowell saying he would like to help.
A spokesman said: “Jamie is devastated over the recent tragedy of Grenfell Tower that recently happened. He wanted to get involved with the charity single and had tweeted and Facebooked his interesting in taking part in the single that is due to be recorded this week.
“He had no desire to use this as a publicity gain and had also recently appeared in a Manchester attack charity single. He is a genuine, loving and caring musician who has feelings. He wishes everyone the best of luck taking part in the single and wishes all the very best success.”
