Can you judge somebody’s parenting skills from a six-second video?

Mariah Carey was honoured on the Hollywood Walk of Fame last week – but all eyes were on her twins Moroccan and Monroe.

The four-year-olds were there to see their mom receive the honour, and little Roc in particular refused to leave Mariah’s side.

So much so that he had to be pulled from Mariah as she posed with her new Star.

After Roc was carried, kicking and screaming away from his mother, she got on with her job. Because of this, some have criticised her parenting skills, insisting Roc and Roe should be Mariah’s priority.

But, whether or not you class it as a ‘real’ job, Mariah was at work. Granted, she’s lucky enough to be able to take her children with her when she’s out earning money – but the job in question must get done.

If anything, the 45-year-old should be praised for not leaving them at home with her fleet of nannies and wanting them to witness what is surely a great achievement in her career.

Roc wasn’t in danger, he didn’t actually NEED Mariah at the particular moment he was plucked from her side, he just wanted to be with his mother.

But Roc in particular didn't want to leave Mariah's side...

However, just as us ‘normal’ folk learned when we were growing up, sometimes mummy and daddy go to work and you can’t be with them.

And Mariah didn’t get mad. In fact she showed great patience, as Roe was crawling all over her for a good few minutes before being led away.

As any parent of young children will know: sometimes you have to let them have their paddy in order to get stuff done.

So it’s unreasonable that the world and its media feel as though they can now judge Mariah’s parenting skills, when they’ve seen only a glimpse into their lives.

From what we have seen of Mariah’s children, they seem happy, healthy and she and Nick [Cannon, the twins’ dad] are rarely seen without them.

In fact, they might be going through a divorce but, unlike some celebrity couples, Mariah and Nick are clearly putting their children’s best interests first as they negotiate their lives around this big change.

Before you judge Mariah – ask yourself how you’d cope if you had to bring the kids to the office everyday...
