The 54-year-old admitted she has already undergone a mastectomy, has had six rounds of chemotherapy and has completed 15 sessions of radiotherapy.
Carol discovered the tumour on her left breast in 2014, and it was found to be a grade 3 aggressive form of cancer.
Explaining her decision to keep things quiet till now, Carol said she didn’t want pity for having the disease.
Speaking the The Sunday Mirror, she said: ‘[The doctor] seemed pretty shocked at the size of the lump, but my mum had cancer and she’d brought us up to be tough about illness so I though, ‘So what if I’ve got breast cancer? Thousands of women get it every year. I’ll get through this.’’
After getting the devastating news that she was suffering from breast cancer, Carol said she and fiancé Mark Cassidy got ‘absolutely s*** f*****’ at the pub.’
Carol admitted the hardest thing for her was losing her eyelashes and eyebrows at the end of 2014, saying: ‘When you’ve got a giant scar, no hair, no eyebrows and no eyelashes, it is pretty shocking.’
Lynda Bellingham, Carol’s Loose Women co-star and close friend, was one of the select few she told about her diagnosis, with the late star saying: ‘F***ing hell! Not you n’all.’
