It was alleged last week that Cheryl, 32, and Frenchman JB, 35, actually separated five months ago – and 56-year-old Simon is helping his friend through her second divorce.
A source told the Mirror: “Sadly, no one here is surprised to hear this news. Jean Bernard never came down this year and we knew a split was on the cards.
“Simon and Cheryl have spent a lot of time together since the live shows started. He’s been offering words of comfort. He cares for her a great deal and has been in contact even while on holiday to make sure she is coping.”
In September 2010 Cheryl was granted a decree nisi from first husband Ashley Cole, following multiple allegations of his infidelity.
She and JB married in secret on the island of Mustique in July 2014 and it’s been reported the businessman grew jealous of Cheryl’s friendships with other men.
According to other sources, JB wants things ended quickly and won’t be going after the former Girls Aloud singer’s money – despite initial fears for her estimated £20 million fortune.
An insider added: “He says he doesn’t want Cheryl’s money and is happy to end things quickly and amicably.”
Cheryl has yet to comment on the divorce allegations.
