Denise Welch was left appalled after spotting a tweet, seemingly posted by Katie Hopkins, which compared TOWIE star Gemma Collins to a “massive whale carcass”.
Slamming Now! magazine, whom Katie has a column with, Denise wrote: “Call yourself a woman's magazine @NowMag!
“This is not acceptable. You have a responsibility to young readers.”
However, as it turned out, the tweet had actually been posted by a parody account - and the real Katie Hopkins was none too impressed by Denise’s remarks.
She tweeted back almost immediately: “You utter buffoon - notice anything about the Twitter handle?”
Katie finished her response with a scathing reference to Denise’s battle with depression and her work with Mind, the mental health charity, writing: “Seek help @MindCharity”
Stung by the barbed comment, Denise responded unhappily: “So because I speak out against @KTHopkin she makes fun of my association with @MindCharity. Bully. Bigot. Bitch.”
Unperturbed, Katie fired back: “@MindCharity have a word with @RealDeniseWelch would you. it's all gone a bit Anthony Hopkins - Silence of the Lambs years.”
She continued, sharing screengrabs of some of Katie’s most controversial Twitter posts: “I accept 1 tweet was from a parody account @KTHopkins These however are not.”
Denise added: “I have lived with mental illness since I gave birth 26 yrs ago. I have & will continue to speak out against bigots like @KTHopkins.
“I am aware that ONE tweet was from a fan account. The rest, however, are from the horses mouth!”
Unfortunately Katie did not seem repentant, sharing a photo of training wheels and writing: “Oi Denise Squelch, a present for you bird. Your brains gone wonky.”
