Alan voiced the role of Scrooge – uncle to Donald Duck, and great-uncle to Huey, Dewey and Louie – on the popular Disney cartoon from 1987 to 1990.
His manager revealed that Alan died of natural causes on Thursday 19 at a film and TV retirement facility in Los Angeles, where he had been residing for more than four years.
When in his thirties, Alan hosted his own variety program in the US called The Alan Young Show, which he was given his first – and only - Primetime Emmy Award for.
Despite the award, Alan was mostly known for starring as Wilbur in US sitcom Mister Ed in the 1960s, opposite a talking horse.
As producers didn’t want anyone to know how they got the horses lips to move, Alan made up the story that they put peanut butter in the horse’s mouth, which everyone believed.
However, Alan admitted: “But Ed [the horse] actually learned to move his lips on cue when the trainer touched his hoof.
“In fact, he soon learned to do it when I stopped talking during a scene! Ed was very smart.”
Alan was born in North Shields, England in 1919, and his family moved to Edinburgh when he was a child, before later moving to Vancouver, Canada.
His parents were both in entertainment too: his dad was a tap dancer, and his mother was a singer.
Alan’s first movie debut was in 1946 in Margie, and enjoyed five decades of success in TV and film, including appearances on Sabrina, the Teenage Witch, The Smurfs and The Great Mouse Detective.
