ITV bosses have reportedly axed Jamelia from Loose Women after her controversial comments earlier this year regarding obese women.

A source has told reporters: "The show is often close to the bone but those comments were the final straw.

"Loose Women’s viewers come in all shapes and sizes and the producers don’t want them to be offended."

All the furore comes from Jamelia's comments back in April where she discussed whether clothes shops on the high street should cater for larger women:

"I do not think it's right to facilitate people living an unhealthy lifestyle, in the same way I don't believe that a size zero should be available - it's not a healthy size for an average woman to be," she said.

She added she was 'all for celebrating people as they are' but, crucially, said: 'I don't believe they [high street stores] should be providing clothes for below that range or above that range.

"Yes, have specialist shops, but you should feel uncomfortable if you are unhealthy... to be available in every High Street store, I don't think that's right."

It caused a lot of upset at the time, with tweeters ranting "'Ah Jamelia. The advocate for self esteem telling people that if you're over a certain size you shouldn't shop on the high street. Idiot." and "I'm so disappointed with Jamelia's comments on Loose Women today. WE. ARE. NOT. PROMOTING. UNHEALTHY.LIFESTYLES. #PlusSizeDebate"

Jamelia responded to the backlash, saying: "Of course I don't think we should ban plus-size clothes from shops. I was referring to extreme sizing, I was referring to health and how we should all participate in helping our youngsters to live healthier lifestyles.'

Her fellow panellists, and other women jumped to her defense too, with co-host Ruth Langsford stating: 'I definitely, categorically said we're not talking about size 14, 16 or even 18.'

Janet Street Porter also defended the star: "I was completely in agreement with Jamelia and I said you've got to ask yourself if a young girl is already size 20-25, can she run around with her children, can she enjoy life or is she storing up health problems for later?

"So I do feel like Jamelia has been somewhat unfairly picked on."

Still, according to the source, it rubbed ITV bosses up the wrong way meaning that the 35 year old singer is said to be focussing on her her beauty features for black women on This Morning.
