Jamie Oliver has hit back at the negative comments he received after it was revealed that two of his daughters Poppy, 14 and Daisy, 13 were in the delivery room when his wife Jools gave birth.

In August, Jamie and Jools Oliver welcomed their gorgeous son River into the world, the TV chef announced the news on Instagram, writing: "And then this just happened guys!! IT'S A BABY BOY!! Everyone in the Oliver family is very surprised and beyond happy.

"He arrived safely, mum / @joolsoliver was really really amazing, unbelievably composed, natural birth and my two eldest girls got to come in at the very end as the baby was born which was amazing to witness very very emotional.

Although plenty of people flooded the family with congratulations a few people found the decision controversial and now the dad-of-five has hit back at the negative criticism, he confessed: "It was the right age for them [Poppy and Daisy], the right scenario for us, and I witnessed their initial raw emotion as the little one was handed to them.

"I know they respect their mum now even more than they already did. It was an amazing show of strength," he told Good Housekeeping.

He continued: "It was an idea from mum and the kids, and we gave it lots of thought. As soon as the baby was out and safe, we got the nod – Poppy cut the umbilical cord!"

He also noted that home births are popular all over the world: "Most of the world has home birthday, and different countries have different habits."

We totally agree Jamie!
