The TOWIE star’s exit came as a shock to his fans and his fellow campmates, with many expecting him to at least make the final.

Speaking to her remaining campmate Kian Egan, Lucy Pargeter said: “That was a given that those two and you would be in the final. That’s ridiculous.”

After his eviction, Joey spoke to hosts Ant and Dec about his time in the jungle and seemed upbeat despite his time coming to an end.

Joey, 23, said: “You don’t actually think you’ll be in the jungle, but you’re properly deep in the jungle. You’ll be sleeping and you see a snake climb on your bed.

“I didn’t expect it to be as hard as it actually is. I came into the jungle to face my fears and I feel like I accomplished that. I wanted to give everything a go.”

Meanwhile Amy, 21, who came fifth place, said she was surprised to make it as far as she did.

“I never thought I’d make it this far. I’m shocked. It’s a blessing. It was hard at times, but you learn so much and you grow and you feel yourself evolving. I feel so lucky to have done it.”

During her time in the jungle, model Amy faced criticism from her campmates after she smuggled in make-up and refused to give it up, getting the whole camp punished.

Joey’s celebrity fans took to Twitter to announce their disappointment at the Essex boy’s exit from the jungle.

His former TOWIE co-star Amy Childs wrote: “Shocked @JoeyEssex should have won !!!!!!”

X Factor star Amelia Lily tweeted: “I’m honestly shocked that @JoeyEssex went tonight. He should have been in the final. I’m angry tbh!”

Joey himself tweeted early this morning: “My first tweet to everyone, just got my phone back!!! Just want to say thank you for all your support and that I love all of you !!! Xxx”
