Keira Knightley married James Righton in a low-key ceremony in the South of France on Saturday.

According to one on-looker, the actress shed ‘tears of happiness’ as she wed her rockstar boyfriend in front of just 11 guests.

The intimate affair was held at the town hall of Mazan, a small town around 12 miles from Marseilles.

'It was a very moving ceremony,' said an onlooker. 'Keira looked extremely moved by the whole thing - there were certainly tears of happiness.

'It was sunny day without a cloud in the sky. There were cheers of "Well done, Keira" when she came out, but there were so few people present so they didn't make much noise.

'It was amusing to see them being driven away in a battered old Renault Clio - it certainly looked as though it had seen better days.'

According to a UK magazine, the small wedding was to be followed by a reception at Keira’s mother’s house in a garden marquee and Sienna Miller was reported to be among the couple’s 50 guests.

The 28 year-old actress, who admitted in a recent interview that she and her now husband James are ‘not big wedding types,’ wore a recycled short tulle Chanel dress she had been pictured wearing at a BAFTA party in 2008.

Karl Lagerfield had offered to design Keira’s bridal gown back in 2012, but a Chanel spokesperson confirmed at the weekend that the dress she chose was from the label's spring/summer 2006 collection.

The no-frills actress, who was engaged to James in May 2012, shrugged off rumours that her wedding impending in a recent interview.

She told a UK magazine last month: ‘I’m just trying to enjoy the engagement bit.’

She also revealed that she and James would hold a no-frills ceremony: ‘We’re not big-wedding types. I don’t need to have all that,’ she said.
