One Direction's Louis Tomlinson has spoken about his mum's death for the first time since she passed away. The world was shocked when it came to light that Johannah Deakin passed away following her battle with leukaemia.

In a statement that confirmed the news it read: "It is with immeasurable sadness that Johannah Deakin's family said goodbye to Johannah in the early hours of Wednesday 7th December 2016.

"Earlier this year, Johannah Deakin was diagnosed with a very aggressive form of leukaemia that required immediate and continuous treatment.

"We respectfully request that the family are given time and space to grieve in private."

She left behind her seven children Louis, 25, Lottie, 18, Felicite 16, twins Daisy and Phoebe, 12 and twins Ernest and Doris, two and her grandson one-year-old Freddie.

For the first time since his mum died, Louis has opened up about his mum's death: "It's not something that I feel 100% comfortable talking too much about but just quickly, when I first found out the news I kind of did want to throw the towel in.

"But it was my mum who said to me that I've just got to keep going, telling me very sternly that she wanted me to [keep going]," she said on SiriusXM Radio.

A few days after the heartbreaking news broke, Louis made his first solo performance on the X Factor and paid a tribute to his mum where he sang his single Just Hold On, speaking about his performance he told the radio station: "It was tough, but I felt like it was nice for me to almost have a little send off for her."

Our thoughts are with Louis and his family at this time.
