Everyone knows that having a child is a life changing experience, but for McBusted’s Tom Fletcher it was particularly mind altering.

After struggling with depression for years, it was becoming a dad to Buzz that helped him finally embrace life.

Tom - whose wife Giovanna is expecting their second child - told The Mirror: “I was taking medication, but I don’t any more.”

He continued: “Having a kid has really helped me in my life. It gives you a sense of needing to be stable. It’s not about you any more, it’s about this child that you’ve decided to bring into the world.

“You don’t have any choice but to cope with life because you’re doing it for someone else. I was very ready for that before Buzz was born.”

Raising money for mental health charity Mind, Tom admits that therapy and medication helped him find a balance and understanding of his condition.

He said: “By the time I started talking to anyone about it I was already so familiar with the patterns of my life – the ups and downs – that I found it easier to deal with because I was older. I wish I’d known about it when I was younger to help through when it was really tough.”
