According to reports, Michael Jackson’s father Joe has suffered a stroke during his 87 birthday celebrations.

The music manager was taken to Albert Einstein Hospital in Sao Paulo after feeling dizzy and telling friends that he couldn’t see.

His family revealed to TMZ that doctors are currently running tests to find out what caused him to become unwell.

Medical staff are now trying to decide whether Joe can be flown home to the US for further treatment.

Joe suffers from diabetes, but it is not known whether this was a factor in triggering the stroke.

Michael Jackson’s father is known for managing the singer’s early career as a member of the Jackson 5. He also managed the careers of Michael’s sisters LaToya and Janet.

He shocked fans of the Jacksons by admitting that he would punish Michael and his siblings by hitting them.

He told Piers Morgan in 2013: “I’m glad I was tough, because look what I came out with. I came out with some kids that everybody loved all over the world. And they treated everybody right.

“There's no such thing as beating a kid. You whip them or punish them over something they did and they will remember that.”

Michael, the youngest son of the Jackson siblings, passed away in 2009 after suffering a fatal overdose of prescription drugs.
