The new system is designed to handle all aspects of arriving for a flight, including checking of visas and passport and baggage handling.

However, the same system caused problems last month when it was first launched.

An on-going British Airways IT glitch left a whole load of passengers frustrated as they waited to jet abroad over the weekend – including our favourite daytime telly presenter Phillip Schofield.

He took to social media to vent his frustrations with a series of sarcastic posts on Twitter and Instagram.

Phil, who has a legion of followers on social media, was far from pleased with the lack of communication from British Airways staff after the check-in system failed, leaving him and his family to return home after missing their flight for their family holiday yesterday.

Heathrow Airport quickly replied to his tweets: “@Schofe Hi Phillip, we regret that you've been affected by the system issues. All parties are currently working on resolving this.”

A BA spokesperson told Telegraph Travel: “The issue was resolved yesterday and our flights are operating normally.

"Our IT teams worked very hard to quickly fix a short-lived problem with our check-in system. We are sorry for the delays some customers had as they checked-in for their flights.

“We are in contact with Mr Schofield to resolve the situation and we are very sorry for the disruption to his travel plans.”

Were you affected with BA delays over the weekend?
