Deal Or No Deal has been gripping the nation since it first arrived on Channel 4 back in 2005. Over the last 11 years, we have watched as people became breath-takingly close to taking the £250,000 prize money away, we've seen celebrities like Olly Murs walk away with just ten pounds, and we've even seen some brilliant themed episodes.

Deal Or No Deal

But when the sad news hit that the game show was going to be axed from Channel 4 this week, one question that has always been at the back of our minds came to the fore – who exactly is the mysterious banker?

As it turns out, he might be someone that Coronation Street fans are already familiar with …

Noel Edmonds' banker friend on the telephone turns out to be an actor called Glen Hugill who has worked on Deal Or No Deal since it started eleven years ago.

You may know his face from his stint as a presenter on Channel 5's show The Mole, and he has also produced reality TV hit Beauty And The Geek.

However, Coronation Street fans who have watched the show since the nineties will know him as Alan McKenna, the policeman and boyfriend of Fiona Middleton (played by actress Angela Griffin).

Deal Or No Deal

We can't believe that we actually knew the secretive man behind the phone all along!

After signing a contract for Deal Or No Deal, Glen became the secret banker who attempts to stop contestants from going for the £250,000 prize money by giving them tempting offers to distract them. His role was initially to decide how much it would take to lure the contestants away from the big cash, and along with two others they used a computer system to work out how much they should offer.

But the mystery surrounding the banker made Glen a character of the show in his own right and he decided to focus his efforts on the well-loved evening segment.

So there you have it – mystery solved!
