After the world was shocked by the death of socialite Tara Palmer-Tomkinson earlier this month, many people have been speculating what the cause of her death was.

Although being well-known for her party lifestyle and substance abuse, which many attributed her death to, it was also revealed that she had been diagnosed with a brain tumour over a year ago.

However, in a Twitter post by her sister, author Santa Montefiore, rebuked claims that this was responsible for the death of the former It Girl.

Santa, who lives in London, clarified what happened in a series of tweets which read: "I've been so touched by the warm response to Tara's death.Thank you from the whole family. But I'd like to clarify a couple of points.

"Today the Coroner's report states that Tara died of natural causes – a perforated ulcer. She did not have a brain tumour.

"Contrary to some reports, Tara was not the goddaughter of HRH the Prince of Wales. Tara's good friends & family know that she was in high spirits in her last days. She had plans, trips & had written a moving new song.

"Lastly there will be a fuller statement from the PT family later today. Thank you again."

She accompanied one of the tweets with a lovely photo of Tara looking her usual, vivacious self.

People all over the country have expressed their sadness at the passing of the legendary TPT - with her best friend Duncan James penning a beautiful tribute to her after her death.

He also shared a video that she had made for him only weeks earlier to celebrate their friendship.

Grazia's Assistant Editor Emily Maddick was also a close friend of Tara's, and penned a beautiful, moving tribute to her in this week's edition.

She wrote: "Tara was brilliantly bonkers which is why she was so widely adored.

"Having become her friend, I can say she was all the things you’d imagine her to be – charming, feisty, fragile, smart, side-splittingly funny - but overall the TPT I knew was remarkably kind."

In an even more dramatically ironic twist, she even joked with the celebrity journalist that she might "suddenly go", texting her: "Hey Crystals, if I do suddenly go…u make sure you keep hanging out in graveyards…otherwise I will come back and spook u!! Joke!!! I have a long life and I fully believe it."

How heartbreaking.
