Never one to be called a wallflower, Dawn French turned heads at the Absolutely Fabulous London premier in a bold pink kimono-style jacket and floral headdress.

Known for her refreshing attitude towards body image, she’s been looking healthier and happier of late after revealing a weight loss of seven and a half stone. Definitely a celebrity diet that works and here’s how she did it.

There was plenty of speculation that the change was down to stress caused by her divorce from Lenny Henry. But speaking out about her look, the comedian revealed that she actively decided to lose weight purely for health reasons.

It was when she was facing a hysterectomy that she decided to slim down. Speaking to the audience at her 30 Million Minutes tour, she said, “the doc told me that if I could lose some weight before the op, they would be able to do it via keyhole, and I would recover in three weeks or so.”

This straight-talking attitude towards her weight is as refreshing as her process. Rather than sampling an extreme celebrity diet or a gastric band, French says her weight loss was down to “joyless low-cal eating and lots more walking for weeks and weeks.”

By opting for a low-calorie diet and moderate exercise, the Vicar of Dibley star has been able to lose weight and keep it off. The old-fashioned method has French looking fabulous and feeling it too, judging by her smile at the Ab Fab premier.

She has some tips to share to make this lifestyle change a little easier. Refusing to keep chocolate in the house helps stop her from breaking her diet whenever she has a craving. She also steers clear of foods she would usually overindulge in, like bread, pasta and potatoes.

While celebrities are known for their weird and wacky ways of losing weight, French goes to prove that eating less and exercising more is a fail-proof method. Watching what you eat and taking up walking or moderate exercise can help you get that much closer to your weight goal.

French’s attitude towards her weight is a breath of fresh air. The comedian has always been body confident and seems unfazed by the attention her new look has brought her.

“For me, whatever age or size I’ve been, I have rather liked myself. The shell is not the thing at all,” she said. “Now people seem so bothered about how I look but I think it is only interesting for about five minutes. Then there are loads of other things to get on with.”

French goes to show that body positivity is as mental as it is physical. Changing the way we think about our bodies could help us feel better about the way we look.

Making attainable weight goals can help you become body confident. We recommend ditching any unrealistic methods and taking inspiration from French’s philosophy.
