The Corrie cobbles have seen their fair share of drama over the last few weeks.

At the beginning of the year, viewers were in tears after Michelle and Steve’s heart breaking stillborn storyline, and we watched as actress Kym Marsh gave an emotional performance after suffering from similar heart break in real life.

Coronation Street fans have since seen things escalate between Peter, Toyah and Leanne, and Bethany’s relationship with Nathan took a turn for the worst in last night’s episode.

But it seems producers over at Granada studios want to give Corrie fans even more drama during the week and are getting ready to increase the number of episodes they air.

Last year, it was announced that it the popular soap would move to a six-day schedule and now more details about the change have come to light.

At the moment, Coronation Street airs two episodes on a Monday night, one on a Wednesday, and two more on a Friday.

Writers will now get a chance to delve deeper in the characters that get less screen time usually, meaning that there is an extra half an hour a week of the drama unfolding in Wetherfield.

Executive producer Kieran Roberts spoke at an event this week where he confirmed that it would enable him to expand the world of Wetherfield without losing its intimacy.

An extra helping of the cobbles to help us through the week? It’s a big yes please from us!
