Ryan Thomas, AKA Jason Grimshaw from Coronation Street, has started his new life in Australia as the brooding Rafael Humphreys on Neighbours.

The former Corrie star has bedded in on the other side of the world, and is preparing to start filming his new role.

Ryan, who left Corrie in June last year to pursue other career options, will be on screen as Rafael early next year – and we can't WAIT to see how he gets on down under.

According to Neighbours bosses, Rafael is "a loner with dark secrets, who comes to Ramsay Street to confront a difficult chapter from his past."

Oo er!

It all sounds VERY intriguing.

Here's what the man himself had to say about his new venture: "I grew up watching Neighbours so to get the chance to join the cast is amazing.

"I was on holiday with my daughter when I got a phone call from my agent asking if I'd like to play this part. I spoke to the producer and found it was very different from anything I'd played before - it was quite a deep, dark story, that really interested me.

"It's a new challenge and I can't wait to start filming."

News of Ryan's stint in Erinsborough surfaced last month after a source told The Mirror: "Ryan's news may come as a bit of a surprise but people are confident he'll make a big splash on Neighbours.

"He'll bring his Corrie fans with him and earn a new legion of fans along the away.

"He is just waiting on his visa. Then he'll be moving to Australia to film the show."

The move to Neighbours will come as a welcome change to Thomas, who was keen to get stuck into another role after leaving Weatherfield behind.

Speaking about his departure from Corrie at the time, Ryan told The Mirror: "For me, it's about testing myself, getting creative, learning something new and playing a different character, which is something I've never done in 16 years.

"Even auditioning is exciting as the whole process is not something I've been involved in for many years."

We don't know about you, but the only think we are left wondering is how Ryan' Australian accent is.

Is he actually really good at accents? Does he have an Australian family member or friend? Exactly how easy IS it to swap from a Manchester accent to an Aussie one?

We'll find out soon...
