Our favourite EastEnders character has been forced to quit the show

It was only a few weeks ago we were left wondering whether Danny Dyer was leaving the show after he hinted he wants to try other things. Speaking about his role at The National Television Awards he said: "Four years is a long time.

"It's been really rewarding but there's other stuff out there. I'd love to show other sides to me, I loved theatre and all that," he told The Sun.

And now the 39-year-old actor who currently plays the infamous Landlord at the Queen Vic has stopped filming for the BBC show to "sort his life out."

The cockney king planned to quit alcohol at the beginning of 2017 but following the National Television Awards where he was drinking booze the BBC show bosses decided to give him a break from the soap.

An insider of the show spoke to The Sun about the decision: "It is best that he takes some time out to sort his life out. He appears to be exhausted.

"As a result, Danny is not filming on the show at all. There is an enforced break that is expected to last a number of weeks."

The source admitted it has caused a bit of a problem for upcoming storyline: "The storylines are worked out months in advance and no one was expecting him to be off.

"A lot of scripts had to be torn up and it’s caused a lot of behind-the-scenes chaos."

EastEnders fans can relax though as the source added: "everyone is determined to get him back to his best."

Phew.

UPDATE

A BBC have since released a statement denying the actor had been forced to take a break: "Danny is on a short break from EastEnders. This was not enforced by bosses, nor has he quit the show."

We were beginning to think the dad-of-three really will be the next Doctor Who. He told the Daily Star he'd be interested in playing the next Doctor: "I could see myself in the scarf and all that. I think I could do it easy. I'd keep my accent too."

Eastenders viewers were shocked last night when Danny's on screen son Lee returned briefly. It was thought he had left the show earlier this week but in Thursday's episode Lee rang the Queen Vic's phone and told his dad: "I need to see you."

Danny-Boy Hatchard has since teased fans on Twitter:

Eek!

We can't wait to see what happens next.
