Following the news that Ross Kemp WILL return to EastEnders later this year, could we see Danniella Westbrook reprise her role in the BBC One soap?

Ross, 51, is set to bring bad boy Grant Mitchell back to the Square one final time to say goodbye to his character’s mum Peggy, who last week emotionally revealed she is dying from breast cancer.

Now EastEnders fans have called for 42-year-old Danniella to step back into her role as Peggy’s daughter Sam, which would bring the Mitchell family back together for the first time in 10 years.

After the BBC confirmed Ross’s return, Twitter exploded with posts demanding them to re-cast mum-of-two Danniella:

She was cast as Sam in 1990, when she was just 16-years-old, but, due to her very public cocaine addiction, Danniella’s character was written out of the soap in 1996.

In 2001 producers recast the character, and Sam was played by Kim Medcalf from January 2002 until November 2005.

But could we see the original Mitchell siblings reunited for the last time?

Sam, played once again by Danniella, was last seen in Albert Square in September 2010, when she and son Richard moved to Portugal to live with Grant and his daughter Courtney.

Danniella is currently taking part in Celebrity Big Brother and has emerged as one of the favourites to win the Channel 5 reality show.

Last year it was revealed her planned appearance in Channel 4’s Hollyoaks has been scrapped, freeing up Danniella should EastEnders bosses decide to bring Sam back for Peggy’s funeral.
