EastEnders viewers were left fuming last night after Walford resident Max Branning almost offered Dot Cotton drugs.

Max, played by Jake Wood, who recently returned to Albert Square, broke the news of Ronnie and Roxy Mitchell’s deaths to Dot after they drowned in a swimming pool on New Year’s Day.

And rather than offering Dot, played by June Brown, a pack of tissues as she broke into tears, Max accidentally pulled out a bag of drugs.

Some viewers were astounded and took to Twitter to express their shock.

One person wrote: “Absolutely crying that Max Branning nearly gave Dot Cotton a bag of cocaine instead of a tissue! What has #EastEnders become!?”

Someone else tweeted: “Mad serious emotional s**t happening on EastEnders and Max Branning nearly hands Dot a bag of coke hahaha.”

Another viewer commented: “My highlight of 2017 is Max giving Dot the bugle haha #EastEnders.”

And someone else posted: “Hahaha Did Max almost offer Dot cocaine instead of a tissue? #EastEnders.”

Another fan wrote: “I know times are bad, but did Max really just think about offering Dot a line? #EastEnders #Max #DotCotton.”

Dot was left devastated after hearing Ronnie and Roxy had drowned during Sunday’s episode.

The Mitchell sisters ended up dead in a swimming pool after Ronnie’s wedding to Jake Branning, played by Scott Maslen.
