After a year away, soap fave Masood Ahmed is returning to Albert Square…
There is a special delivery wending it’s way to Walford with news that hapless postie Masood Ahmed is set to return. Yay!
The popular character, played by actor, Nitin Ganatra, will be returning from Pakistan after leaving Walford last year. However, in a shock twist, dad Masood, who was married to battle-axe Zainab, (played by Nina Wadia), WON’T be bringing his son Kamil with him but, according to The Sun, will instead will be bringing some NEW family members to Blighty. Ooh…we’re intrigued.
A soap insider said, “Masood has been involved in numerous top storylines since he joined EastEnders and he has unfinished business on the Square.
“The extended family who are joining him have yet to be cast but bosses certainly want Masood to be one of the soap’s central characters again.”
Which is good news as far as we’re concerned, we loved all the shennanigans the cheeky chappie got up to in Walford including his close relationship with Jane and his fling with Carmel, oh and his romance with Carol Butcher. And let’s not forget all the family traumas he was always in the thick of, including the massive fallout that his son Syed sparked when he revealed he was gay and was in love with Jane’s brother Christian.
Speaking about his return, Nitin said: “When I was told Masood still has much to give to the show and is missed by the audience, it was hard to refuse.
“It is with great pride that I will grow my Masood goaty once again to help create an extended family around him.”
Viewers last saw the postie heading to Pakistan with son Kamil in a bid to reunite with his ex-wife Zainab, but we can only assume that hasn’t panned out too well but hey, Zainab’s loss is our gain.
We’re delighted he’s coming back. Could his return mean a re-birth of that famous Albert Square eaterie, the Ahjee Bhajee. We can only dream!....
