As EastEnders fans will be all too aware, the past few months have been very tough on Martin Fowler (James Bye) and Stacey Branning (Lacey Turner), due to her ongoing struggle with postpartum psychosis.

But it seems as if things are only going to get worse before they get better.

Stacey is anxiously awaiting her mental health review - and desperately trying to stay calm.

But, just one day before the review takes place, Martin and baby Arthur are involved in a car accident - leaving Stacey in shock.

Sonia (Natalie Cassidy), who delivers the news, tries to help Stacey to stay calm.

The nurse’s soothing words, however, have little affect on the anxious mum, who quickly becomes more and more stressed as she convinces herself that she needs to return home as soon as possible.

As a result, Stacey finds herself struggling to answer the doctor's questions during the review.

The young mum eventually decides that it’s best to be honest, and opens up about how she's really feeling.

Stacey is then offered a choice; she can stay in the hospital as a voluntary patient, or return home to continue her treatment there.

What will Stacey decide?

Whether she goes home or not, there is still another dark cloud looming over Stacey and Martin’s relationship; the market stall trader has no idea that Kush Kazemi (Davood Ghadami) is the real father of his girlfriend’s baby son.

And, with tensions at an all time high between the pair, it’s unsurprising that they wind up in a violent altercation just hours before Martin’s car crash.

Could the truth finally be about to come out?

Teasing the big reveal, James Bye said to Inside Soap: "I think it's going to be an implode or explode situation.

“He'll either jump off a bridge or go crazy with Kush and Stacey.

“If it was me, I wouldn't be able to get my head around it. I've got kids myself so it's not something I ever want to think about!”

James added: “I am keen for him to find out, but at the moment I don't think it can happen, what with everything that is going on with Stacey.

"While I don't want it to end up being a long, drawn-out storyline, the upcoming scripts are really strong."

It remains to be seen how Martin will react to the baby bombshell - after all, Shabnam recently exited Albert Square forever after learning of her husband’s deception.

Could Martin be set to follow in her footsteps?
