EastEnders are handling Lee Carter's depression storyline with grace and dignity at the moment, by slowing building things up and showing viewers how Lee is solely consumed by his feelings.

Instead of going full throttle, the soap are focusing on the everyday niggles that act as catalysts for a slow and scary downward spiral including symptoms such as loss of sex drive and flying off the handle at the smallest things...

In recent months, we've seen Lee marry the love of his life Whitney Dean, hold down a job outside of Walford and move into his own place. However, all this came at a huge cost, with Lee not only sinking back into his depression, but also racking up a huge amount of debt – he even stole the charity bucket from the Queen Vic to cover the deposit on the flat.

Nothing and no-one has been able to lift Lee's confidence and things are getting worse, especially at work.

Viewers have seen the troubled former solider being bullied at work by his cocky colleague Oz.

He's taunted Lee over his capabilities, his marriage to wife Whitney and defaced his briefcase and his suit.

Could Oz play a vital part in Lee's upcoming exit storyline? Will he finally react and see red, letting his anger take control?

Another theory is that Lee will be so succumbed by his mental health that he will take his own life during the festive period – leaving Whitney and his family in shatters.

We've seen the effect Lee's anger has had in the past, he was a key suspect in the Lucy Beale murder case and understandably wanted to go after his mum's rapist Dean Wicks...

A happy ending for Lee is looking less likely by the day, especially as we already know that Danny-Boy Hatchard, who has played Lee since 2014, will be leaving the soap in the near future - so will we be saying goodbye to him at Christmas? And under what circumstances?

Sob!

A BBC source confirmed the exit, saying: "This was a tough decision, but sometimes to create big storylines, characters need to come and go."

Danny-Boy has previously said getting the role on EastEnders was like 'winning the lottery'.
