Emmerdale's Danny Miller appeared on Lorraine's show this morning to discuss his [National Television Award]((http://lifestyle.one/tags/ntas) nomination - and the storyline which earned him that.

His character, Aaron Dingle, went through a traumatic storyline last year where he revealed that he'd been sexually abused by his father.

It all came out after his father - the man responsible for his pain - Gordon Livesy, played by Gary Mavers, returned to Emmerdale.

Speaking to Lorraine this morning ahead of the NTAs this evening, he said: "When this storyline was first set about, it never occurred to us how popular it was going to be - in the right way.

"It's such a negative thing that we're trying to create some sort of positivity out of it and say it is ok to speak out. It's ok to let those demons go from all those years and that was what we aimed to do, and I think we've achieved it."

Danny, who has played Aaron on Emmerdale for eight years now, said: "It's a great platform for these kind of storylines to come forward and be told in a fictional way, but we based this storyline on real life cases.

"It's such a negative subject that we need the light bringing to it - we need the light shining on it, and bringing some sort of positivity to it with people coming forward and admitting what happened to them."

Danny is up for Best Serial Drama Performance against his co-star Natalie J Robb who plays Moira Barton, Jack P Shepherd who plays David Platt in Coronation Street and Lacey Turner for her turn as Stacey Slater in [EastEnders]((http://lifestyle.one/tags/eastenders).
