Maisie Williams has announced that she will be starring in upcoming film from the makers of Wallace and Gromit - Early Man.

The Game Of Thrones star uploaded a photo on her Twitter account of her with her clay-motion alter-ego, Goona. She is described as a "gallant and indomitable rebel"... Well, Maisie certainly has experience of playing those characteristics!

Maisie's Game Of Thrones character, Arya Stark, is no stranger to gallant and rebellious activity, and her recent appearance in Doctor Who saw her brave mediaeval young girl sacrifice herself for her village.

We think she'll fit right in!

Early Man, which will be Aardman's seventh feature film and is set to be released next year, is set at the dawn of time "when prehistoric creatures and woolly mammoths roamed the earth". The film's hero is plucky caveman Dug who, along with sidekick Hognob, unites his tribe in a quest against the Bronze Age.

Dug will be voiced by Eddie Redmayne, who has recently starred in Fantastic Beasts And Where To Find Them. Tom Hiddleston is also signed onto the project as the film's antagonist, the "villainous" Lord Nooth.

Nick Park, who is directing the film, said of Maisie's casting: "Maisie is a terrific actress, and she is of course no stranger to embodying a valiant heroine. I'm most excited to see her breathe life into Goona – I know she'll be the perfect ally to Eddie's Dug.

He also commented on Eddie: "Not only is Eddie a joy to work with, his versatility and boundless energy have really helped to bring my new character to life. He embodies the cheeky charm, fun and plucky wit of Dug and I'm sure he'll get along brilliantly with Dug's sidekick Hognob."

Maisie said of being casted: "I'm a huge Aardman fan - having the chance to work with Nick Park is a dream come true, especially as I get to voice such a fantastic character as Goona. I can't wait for audiences to meet her."

There's a very short trailer that was posted by Studiocanal's Twitter page you can watch below.
