Earlier this year it was announced that one of the most famous cockney’s in the world was getting her own biopic.
The news stopped every soap fan in their tracks – even those who prefer the Corrie cobbles to Albert Square!
And now we know just who is going to step into those hard-to-fill shoes and play the national treasure that is the one and only Dame Barbara Windsor.
The biopic, Babs, is a vision by Tony Jordan, who was one of the lead writers of EastEnders during Barbara’s time on the soap, and British actress, Jamie Winstone, will be taking on the role in order to bring the famous blonde bombshell to life.
Jamie will split the part with Samantha Spiro, as the project attempts to span an epic 50 years of Barbara’s life.
Viewers will see everything from her wartime childhood to her time on classic shows like Carry On and EastEnders, as well as shedding light on the more intimate moments of her personal relationships.
Speaking about her excitement to play the iconic actress during her 20s and 30s, Jamie said: “It is a complete honour to play Dame Barbara Windsor.
“It is a role I have manifested for years and am so excited to step into her national treasure shoes!
“I have always been a huge fan of Barbara and to be able to play her throughout this stage of her life is gonna be very special,”
The drama will also see Barbara making a cameo herself, and she has given her full blessing for the production.
“I am truly thrilled to know that the BBC have secured two such talented and established actresses to portray me … Boy am I a lucky lady!” Barbara commented.
Viewers will be able to watch the movie of her life when it airs next year.
