Coronation Street stars flee bugs as set is invaded by STD-carrying ladybirds

The Coronation Street set is 'on lockdown' after it was invaded by STD-carrying ladybirds.

The stars of the soap have reportedly fled from the Harlequin bugs which are from Asia and have set up camp in the warm Manchester television studios.

The insects are known for carrying sexually transmitted diseases that can harm other bugs.

They are said to have been hibernating in dressing rooms and worried the cast of have been running from them when they spot them.

Catherine Tyldesley, who plays Eva Price, told the Daily Star: “I discovered loads of ladybirds all over the dressing rooms. They were all hiding out in there.

“There was yellow ones and everything. They’re using the studios like holiday homes. It’s madness.”

The ladybirds have arrived just in time for Tish Merry to depart from the show.

She spent four years performing on the famous cobbles as character Steph Britton.

A source told The Sun: “Tish has had an amazing couple of years where she’s been at the fore of some of Corrie’s biggest storylines, but feels it’s now time for a change.”

Her final scenes have already been recorded and will be shown on television over the New Year.

Coronation Street continues tomorrow on ITV1 at 7.30pm.
