Gogglebox has been plagued by rumours about fake scripts and auditions. But it hasn't stopped millions of us tuning into Channel 4 for a hearty dose of 'tell it like it is' social commentary and witty one-liners from our favourite families.

Sid Siddiqui is the loveable IT guru who keeps his sons, Baasit and Umar in check. So it was a real surprise when the affable Derby geeks revealed how the show is REALLY made.

IT teacher Baasit told the Derby Telegraph: "There are two remote cameras in the room when they're filming.

"One is focusing on the family on the sofa and the other turns and films the close-ups of us.

"If one of us says something or reacts to something in a shocked way the camera will zoom into us. We have become so used to it now it just feels like a normal evening."

Each family sits down twice a week for a marathon 6 hour viewing session. They don't know what they'll be watching until they're mic'd up by a small army of producers who sit in the next room controlling the cameras.

Umar said: "The way the show is cut is very clever. I think, in the wrong hands, that show could fail spectacularly."

When asked about the secret to Gogglebox's success, 71-year-old Sid said: "You have got to compare it to a group of guys in the pub, having a drink together. You have to capture the moment."

The Siddiqui's do it perfectly.

Best ever quote?

"You'd feel uncomfortable living with Oscar Pistorius though, wouldn't you? Every time you'd go to the bathroom you'd go, 'I'm in the bathroom Oscar, it's me! There's no one else here...'" - Baasit

Here are 20 things you didn't know about the hit show.
