Ed Balls is the tenth celebrity to leave Strictly Come Dancing2016, despite entertaining viewers and putting his all into every single routine he performed.

The politician, who has spent most of the competition at the bottom of the leader board with his dance partner Katya Jones, looked out of his depth on Saturday night's show - failing to impress the judges with his male-model/Zoolander themed tango to the Rolling Stone's I Can't Get No Satisfaction and by coming bottom in the brand new Cha Cha challenge.

And for the first time EVER, Ed Balls found himself in the dreaded dance off alongside Judge Rinder after failing to sail through on viewers vote alone.

The Cha Cha challenge definitely had something to do with it, as the judges’ scores and results from the Cha Cha Challenge, where extra valuable marks could be earned, were combined with the results of the viewers’ vote.

Taking to the floor to perform their routine again, Ed and Katya recieved their fate from the judges who all chose to save Judge Rinder and Oksana.

Ed told Tess Daly: "If people watching have had half the fun I’ve had learning to dance with Katya then they must have had a complete blast because it’s been such a fabulous thing. The judges, all the supporters, the make-up team, the wardrobe, in particular that band are the best in the world. It’s just wonderful.

"But above all the only reason we have been able to learn and to entertain is because of Katya, and it’s her first series. She is going to go on to be a total dynamite, knock-out Strictly star, she is just the best there is. Absolutely amazing. She is utterly brilliant. And to all the people who have kept me in this long, thank you very much I’m very grateful, I’ve had a wonderful time."

Ed’s professional partner, Katya said; “There is so much I would like to say to you. I absolutely love this man, it’s my first series and I couldn’t have wished for better.”

It looks like some viewers may be pleased with the news, as many took to social media to hint that 'it's his time to go'.

Earlier in the week, a show insider reportedly told The Sun that producers were 'secretly hoping' that the Cha Cha challenge would be the end of Ed - despite him being extremely popular with viewers.

"The challenge is almost definitely set to place Ed bottom of the judge's leaderboard.

"He's the worst dancer on paper and even if he nails his rehearsed dance, he's set to be voted off by judges."

Ed himself even described the challenge as 'an absolute nightmare'.

Do you think the right person went? How do you feel about Judge Rinder being in the bottom two?

Who are you hoping will get their hands on that coveted glitterball trophy?
