Strictly Come Dancing viewers have hit out at the BBC after they were left unable to vote during Saturday’s show.

The penultimate main episode of this year’s series was broadcast last night and featured the four remaining couples attempting to make it through to the final of the competition.

But this weekend’s semi-final left the voting public angry when it soon became apparent there was a problem.

The online voting system went down just a few minutes after lines were opened which left some panicked they would be unable to save their favourite competitor.

One person tweeted: “Thanks, BBC. @bbcstrictly due to BBC website’s login problem, my account is locked to 10 minutes past your voting shut off.”

Another wrote: “Strictly voting site crashed again. Vote button not working. I sooooo have to vote for @OreOduba PANIC!!!!”

Someone else posted: “Am fuming tried to phone to vote on Strictly took ages.”

Another another person commented: “Strictly voting shambles…unable to vote for last half an hour…”

However, show bosses did manage to rectify the technical glitch so that people could vote again.

A spokesperson told the Metro: “For a few minutes when the vote opened, there was a technical issue online that affected all of the contestants.

“Most people trying to vote online would have still been able to register their vote. The issue affected only those who were registering for the first time or signing back in.

“As soon as the problem was identified, information was put online to remind voters of the phone numbers as an alternative method of voting.

“Immediately, the issue was rectified and voters were informed and we saw that online voters came back to vote. There was still plenty of time left for viewers to vote.

“The vote has been verified and there is no issue with the final vote.”
