With Turkey and Egypt's tourism industries collapsing following terrifying attacks, the rest of Europe has become stretched with eager holiday makers causing a low availability of affordable family holidays abroad this year.

Marriott Hotels' Great British Break report has discovered that there has been a huge surge in UK holidays with many people staying even less than 25 miles away from home for a night or two.

Really, who can blame them? No baggage allowance limits, no crippling embarrassment as toddlers scream for two hours solid on a packed flight, and no getting up at god-knows-what time in the morning to catch a flight.

OK, you got me, the UK might by a TEENY bit rainy every now and then... But we'd swap losing all remaining dignity at customs by having your trousers fall down as pockets are stuffed with items too heavy for hand luggage for an afternoon in playing monopoly ANY DAY.
