Tucking into a McDonald’s Happy Meal was always made more exciting by the thought of that toy hidden inside.

But it seems as if things are going to get even MORE exciting for your little ones over the next two weeks.

Because, instead of a toy, they’ll be finding something even better; a book!

Yup, the fast food chain will be giving away Harper Collins titles, including Paddington by Michael Bond, Happy Valentine’s Day, Mouse! by Laura Numeroff and Clark The Shark Takes Heart by Bruce Hale between now and Valentine's Day.

McDonald’s has teamed up with literacy charity Reading is Fundamental and publishers Harper Collins to give away more than 17 million books between now and Valentine’s Day.

And the books will each be specially made to measure 4.5 inches by 5.5 inches, so that they can fit snugly inside those iconic Happy Meal boxes.

Reading is Fundamental chief executive, Carol Rasco, said: “Books are the building blocks for a better future.

"They foster the imagination, expand our understanding of the world and fuel a lifelong love of learning.

"We are pleased McDonald’s is helping millions of children discover the joy of reading.”

Are you excited by this literary giveaway? Do you think it will make children (ahem) hungry to read?
