Dame Julia Peyton-Jones has stunned, well, basically everyone, by becoming a mother for the first time at the age of 64.

Dame Julia - who was awarded an OBE in the 2003 Birthday Honours for services to art and then later made a Dame in 2016 - has spent the past few decades building a high-flying career in the art world, and was most recently the director of the much-acclaimed Serpentine Gallery in London.

However she quit this demanding role in October 2015, and now it seems she has decided to focus on her personal life.

It's not yet been confirmed if her daughter, who she's named Pia, was adopted, born via a surrogate or conceieved using IVF - although it is thought that Dame Julia is currently single.

Although some people have questioned whether it's right for Dame Julia - who turns 65 in February - to become a mother for the first time at an age when many people are becoming grandparents, her friend Robin Saunders told the London Evening Standard: "This is the most exciting news. Julia will be a wonderful mother and role model for her daughter."
