You may have seen people (mainly celebrities) flood Instagram promoting the Bootea shake.

Celebrities such as Lindsay Lohan, Katie Price and Made in Chelsea's Louise Thompson have promoted the tea in the past. However, Dr IHonour has started a petitionto remove dangerous laxatives from the drink.

The doctor and journalist has described herself as working to uncover misleading inaccurate diet and nutrition trends. Bootea came to her attention after hearing lots of women and girls express that they want to lose weight.

In her online petition she says that the laxative – Seena - included in the tea detox does not cause weight loss but does has dangers if used excessively. She explains that "it can cause extreme dehydration and damage your colon, liver, heart and muscles if taken for longer than 1-2 weeks."

And excess consumptions of the laxative can cause death.

Dr IHonour stresses that isn't not safe to take Seena longer than a week without medical supervision and points out that Bootea's detoxes are designed to be taken for 28 days - three weeks longer than what is recommended.

The aim of the petition – that has over two-thirds of supporters needed - is to remove the laxatives from teatox and make the product safe and not misleading.
