Police are reportedly trying to trace the movements of a 24-year-old woman after she was found pushing her dead son on a swing.
Authorities in Maryland, USA, say she may have been in the park with her 3-year-old son’s body for hours.
Diane Richardson, a spokeswoman for Charles County Sheriff’s Office, said that they wanted “to find out what was going on in her life, what led to this moment."
Police say that they do no think the child’s death was due to foul play.
Those who found the unnamed woman say that “it was instantaneously clear the child was dead” before adding that there was no obvious signs of trauma to his body.
The mother was taken into custody, but was unable to answer police questions. She was then taken to hospital to undergo medical evaluation.
Richardson says that the horrific incident has been very hard for the woman’s family.
"It's a very sad and tragic situation for the mother, her family, the officers.
“All of us want answers. We're working very hard on that."
