McCain Foods are recalling their hash browns due to fears they might contain bits of golf balls...
There have been a fair few strange reasons for recalling food over the past few years.
Arguably, the weirdest one yet was definitely back in 2013 when Tesco beef products were found to contain traces of HORSE.
That is until today.
McCain Foods are going one better and have released a recall notice for some of their hash brown products.
Why, you ask?
What could possibly be weirder than having traces of horse?
Well, we'll tell ya.
It's because they reckon there might be traces of golf ball in some of the hash browns.
Yes, traces of golf ball.
Just let that one sink in for a minute.
We know you must have hundreds of questions - how could you fit a golf ball in a hash brown and not notice? How big ARE these hash browns? Have they been chopped up into little pieces?!
Before we go any further, you will be relieved to know that this is only an issue for hash brown products in the US, not here in the UK.
No need to dig out that bag from the bottom of your freezer to check the dates - you ain't gonna find any golf balls rolling around the bottom of the drawer.
It turns out that the field where the potatoes are harvested is right next to a golf course, which we're guessing means that they've harvested a couple of little plastic balls along with their tatties.
OH DEAR OH DEAR.
McCain Foods USA released a statement which read: "The frozen hash brown products may be contaminated with extraneous golf ball materials, that despite our stringent supply standards may have been inadvertently harvested with potatoes used to make this product.
"We believe the cause might be that the field where the potatoes were harvested was adjacent to a golf course. Consumption of these products may pose a choking hazard or other physical injury to the mouth."
Thankfully, there haven't been any reported injuries so far - hopefully because there haven't been any, rather than because people haven't yet come forward!
And they are offering a full refund too, to be fair.
