The verdict comes after his initial conviction of manslaughter, which was changed to murder last December after the appeal of the prosecution.

Now it seems Oscar Pistorius could be out sooner than expected in order to train for the upcoming Olympics.

Tubby Reddy, CEO of South Africa’s Sports Confederation and Olympic Committee told the Mail Online that Oscar Pistorius could potentially compete for the 2020 Paralympics taking place in Tokyo.

Explaining that Oscar would have served his time and paid his “debt to society” by the time the games begin in Japan, and so believes there is nothing preventing him from participating.

“He would have paid his debt to society and will be back in society, living as a normal South African citizen. There is no rule that says he wouldn’t be able to participate,” the official said.

It seems that the sports officer would welcome Pistorius back on the national team expressing that he would have “no problem” with Oscar’s return.

He stated: “If he is out on parole, as it seems he will be before then, and qualifies for selection then I don’t see how there can be a problem – why not?”

Mr Reddy added that as long as Oscar is in good health and trains, then he should be eligible to compete.

During Oscar’s trial, shocking photos of Reeva Steenkamp’s body were released by trial judge Thokozile Masipa, after requests from prosecutor Gerrie Nel and Reeva’s father, Barry Steenkamp.

Explaining the reasoning behind their decision, Mr Nel said: “Isn't it time for the world to see what Oscar Pistorius did with Black Talon rounds to Reeva Steenkamp's head?”
