Pakistan celebrity Qandeel Baloch has been murdered.

The 26-year-old star, dubbed Pakistan’s Kim Kardashian, was reportedly strangled to death by her brother in what appears to be an "honour killing.”

The social media star was an outspoken feminist and was seen as a controversial figure in the conservative country due to her provocative videos and meteoric rise to fame.

Baloch, real name is Fauzia Azeem, was killed in her family home in Multan, a large city in the province of Punjab.

A police spokesperson said: ”Her father Azeem informed the police that his son Waseem has strangled Qandeel.”

"Apparently, it is honour killing but further investigations would reveal the real motives behind this murder.”

Police are currently searching for Waseem, who has disappeared following the killing.

Pakistan's Prime Minister has officially condemned the murder, posting on Twitter: "There is no honour in killing in the name of honour. Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif."

In one of her final interviews Qandeel spoke out against Pakistan's patriarchal society and said she wanted to be a leading figure for girl power in the country.

Our thoughts go out to Qandeel's friends and family at this tragic time.
