Police have put out an appeal for a woman after a newborn baby was found at a bus shelter in Conwy, Wales

A newborn baby girl has been discovered abandoned at a bus shelter.

She was found in the shelter in Conwy, Wales, at 7.15am this morning by a member of the public, who immediately called the emergency services.

The little one was taken to hospital and is being looked after there now, but her condition is unknown.

But police are concerned about the welfare of the mother.

Helen Douglas for North Wales Police said: "At about 7.15am this morning, a new born baby girl was found in a bus shelter by the Magpie and Stump public house in Towyn, Conwy.

"We want mum to know that she is currently being cared for and treated in Ysbyty Glan Clwyd. We are concerned about the health of the mother of the baby girl and are appealing for her to come forward by contacting me, Helen, on 07835 923787.

"Likewise if you are a concerned friend, relative or neighbour of the mother you can also contact me on the same number."

Police forensic teams sealed off the area looking for evidence and a helicopter could be seen flying around early this morning.

Anyone who knows anything about the mother or may be able to help identify her should contact North Wales Police by calling 101, quoting reference number V103529.
