UPDATE

Charlie remains in intensive care but doctors have said they are “very happy” with her neurological results.

Charlie’s kidneys are not responding to treatment and are being supported by a respirator, so she is being kept on dialysis.

Her mother has spoken out about Charlie’s condition saying: "Charlotte is really strong but as the doctors keep reminding me, everyone heals differently.

"I am just so thankful that she's able to communicate with us again.

"It's been the worst imaginable time - we have been beside ourselves with worry but the fact Charlotte is now conscious is amazing.

"Knowing Charlotte, the thing she'll be most annoyed about is that she's missed the Olympics."

A spokeswoman for the Sky Sports News presenter said their main focus is to get Charlie stable enough to fly her back to the UK.

The London School of Tropical Medicine are working around the clock to save the Team GB ambassador.

Sky Sports presenter Charlie Webster is currently struggling against the clock as a rare form of malaria has prompted doctors to put her into a medically induced coma.

The London School of Tropical medicine is working alongside doctors at Sao Lucas hospital to ensure the recovery of Team GB's ambassador.

In a public message on Charlie's Instagram, a note read: "What was initially thought as dehydration, caused by her riding to Rio, has since been diagnosed as a severe complication caused by a bacterial infection."

Medical professionals across both continents and the USA have found out which type of malaria is affecting Charlie and are treating her accordingly.

Although malaria is a common infection in tropical climates, previous to the trip, Charlie was informed that she would not be at risk from the disease on her route, so precautionary medicine was not taken.

Charlie cycled for 3000 miles to raise money for the Jane Tomlinson Appeal, and her charity fundraising journey saw Charlie cycle from London to Portugal, before getting a plane to the north of Brazil, biking down to the capital city.

The much-loved presenter has recently split from actor Allen Leech, best known for his role as Tom Branson in Downton Abbey, to focus on their respective careers.

She first began to feel unwell on the day of the Olympics opening ceremony. Tweeting from a bed at Sao Lucas hospital this morning Charlie said: "Thank you very much for your messages of support, it means a lot."

We wish Charlie a speedy recovery.
