Spanish holiday

June has FINALLY landed, and, despite the lack of sunshine, there’s no denying that it put people in a summery frame of mind.

So we imagine that plenty of people have booked in mini breaks and holidays over the next couple of weeks.

However it seems as if the recent spate of flight cancellations may have thrown a spanner in the works for a LOT of people.

Ryanair were forced to cancel 75 flights to, from and over France that were scheduled for today (Thursday 2nd June).

British Airways have also cancelled around 40 flights, including six flights between Heathrow and Madrid, and four to and from Paris, Barcelona, Geneva and Rome.

They said: “We will be using larger aircraft including some long-haul planes, where possible, to help affected customers and are doing all we can to reduce the levels of disruption.”

And easyJet, who previously issued warnings about flight cancellations on Twitter, have also been forced to delay and cancel flights.

They said: "We have been forced to cancel flights ahead of the strike.”

And it seems as if these cancellations, all of which are a direct result of the French Air Traffic Control strikes, could be the first of many.

Unions are reportedly planning even more strikes over their working conditions, all of which are likely to take place over the next week, and particularly over the weekend.

If these go ahead, they will spark severe delays in western France, which will have a huge impact on travellers between the UK and Spain - particularly for families travelling home from their half-term holidays.

The strikes are also predicted to affect those who plan to travel to the European Football Championships, due to take place in France between the 10th June and 10th July.

Customers are advised to check with the airline to see if their flights have been cancelled.

Ryanair are encouraging their customers to sign a ‘Keep Europe’s Skies Open’ petition, which aims to prevent passengers flights and holidays being delayed or cancelled when Air Traffic Control (ATC) unions in France go on strike.

They have said that they hope this petition will put a stop to the "repeated blackmail and disruption by ATC unions".

Has your flight been disrupted by the industrial action taken by French ATC unions?
