Abortion has been illegal in Chile since 1989, but activists have shown what this means for women living there.

It's called the 'Accidental Abortion' campaign and it's as horrific as it sounds.

Organisation Miles Chile sats the point of videos released is to shock the country into legalising abortion again.

In one 'demonstration', a woman shows the lengths many have to go to in order to have an abortion.

It involves making a cut on a pair of stilettos, between the top of the heel and shoe.

She then walks down the street until she finds a fire hydrant, before deliberately twisting her ankle and throwing herself onto the hydrant.

Claudia Dides, executive director of Miles Chile, told CNN Chile: "These are deliberately created violent fictional scenes to spark debate."

Chilean president Michelle Bachelet has proposed a bill to legalise abortion in extreme cases, such as rape or when the fetus is damaged.

However Miles Chile is hoping their shock campaign will help to get the law abolished altogether.
