Teen killer of Spalding dinner lady and her daughter was victims' daughter and sister

School dinner lady Elizabeth Edwards and her 13-year-old daughter Katie were brutally murdered in their home last April

People across the country were horrified last April when a mother and daughter were brutally stabbed to death in their home by two teenagers.

Dubbed "Britain's youngest double murderers", the identities of the two teenagers were never released, and the country was left wondering what sort of 14-year-olds could have done such a thing.

But reporting restrictions have today been lifted on the killers - and it has been revealed that one of them was none other than Elizabeth's other daughter.

Kim Edwards, now 15, was sentenced along with her boyfriend Lucas Markham in October 2016 at Nottingham Crown Court to a minimum term of 20 years each, which was then reduced 17-and-a-half.

Three judges at London's Court of Appeal lifted reporting restrictions on the killers, who were likened to Bonnie and Clyde at the time.

Police discovered Kim and Lucas lying under a duvet watching the film Twilight whilst her mother and sister's bodies lay upstairs after Markham had brutally stabbed Elizabeth and Katie with a kitchen knife.

Markham carried out the murders which had been planned by Edwards.

Mr Justice Haddon-Cave gave his reasons for lifting the ban: "It is impossible for the public properly to understand this case without knowing the identity of the defendants and that these murders took place in a closed family context.

"This singular fact informs and colours one's entire understanding of the case... Unless one knows this singular fact, it is impossible to understand the true motive behind these murders."

Det Supt Martin Holvey, of Lincolnshire Police, did not seem to think the identities should have been made public: "I'm sure that sense of disbelief and horror will be deepened now it is known that it was Elizabeth's own daughter who was responsible for plotting with her boyfriend to carry out the murders.

"These new revelations will undoubtedly focus attention on Spalding once again. I would like to repeat sentiments I have made earlier, thanking the community for their cooperation throughout the case and paying tribute to the courage of Elizabeth and Katie's family.

"They have endured a terrible ordeal and faced the additional anguish of knowing that this horrific crime was committed by a family member."
