American airline United has come under fire for refusing to let a 10-year-old girl board a plane because she was wearing leggings!

Air travel is boring and uncomfortable, which is why all sensible people head to the airport in something really comfy.

However it seems that American airline United have decided that casual attire is not suitable for their flights - even if the passenger in question is a child.

The airline has come under fire after a 10-year-old girl wasn't allowed to board a flight from Denver to Minneapolis because she was wearing leggings.

Stunned mum-of-five Shannon Watts took to Twitter after she witnessed the incident, where check-in staff made the girl change into a dress from her carry-on luggage before they allowed her to board the flight.

Another two girls - who didn't have any spare clothes to change into - were simply refused entry!

Despite the uproar - which has seen celebrities including Chrissy Teigan, Seth Rogan and Patricia Arquette take to Twitter to condemn the airlines behaviour - United have stuck to their guns and insisted that they are well within their rights to police what women wear on their flights (it should be noted that the girls father was wearing a pair of shorts... so hardly evening wear!).

United also justified their actions by saying that the girl's dad worked for the airline, and that there are special rules for United staff and their families as they 'represent' the airline.
