REAL LIFE: ‘I was so drunk I can’t even remember my wedding’

Siobhan Rush, 29, had spent a year planning her £5,000 dream wedding to Frankie, 28. However, a day of bringe-drinking meant it resulted in disaster...

I met Frankie on dating website Plenty Of Fish in October 2014 and, even before we’d met in person, I knew he was the one for me.

After dating for more than a year, Frankie proposed to me on Christmas Day in 2015. I was ecstatic, but as soon as the ring was on my finger I became totally obsessed.

I spent months planning every detail. I bought a beautiful vintage dress and planned to decorate the venue in red and black bunting. We invited 100 friends and family, and my eight-year-old daughter Eve, from a previous relationship, agreed to be my bridesmaid.

So when the big day finally arrived on 2 June this year, I couldn’t wait to walk down the aisle.

I was extremely nervous so I had a few glasses of prosecco in the morning while I was getting ready to calm my nerves, and one in the car on the way to the venue.

Our marriage ceremony at the Wherry Hotel in Oulton Broad was absolutely magical and everything I ever dreamed of. The reception followed and to start off with it was great.

We had ‘80s music playing and everyone kept buying me drinks. But alongside the rosé wine I’d had during the meal, I estimate that I drank at least another four bottles of wine, a jägerbomb and six shots of Sambuca by 9pm.

The alcohol went straight to my head and, although I can remember the speeches, I don’t remember anything after our first dance.

The next day I woke up in our hotel room at the venue with a terrible hangover. I had no idea how I’d got to bed but I was terrified I’d embarrassed myself.

Frankie and his family later told me I’d been singing loudly, demanding drinks and that I woke everyone up at 1am screaming at the kitchen staff for potato wedges.

I was mortified and thought things couldn’t get any worse – until Frankie told me that I’d gone missing at the end of the night and he’d found me slumped asleep on the toilet, before carrying me to bed.

Needless to say, I was far too drunk to try to consummate the marriage and couldn’t even get out of my dress and take off my false eyelashes.

I was mortified and gutted that I can’t recall a good chunk of my wedding day. If I could turn back time I wouldn’t have drunk so much but luckily my husband – and eve my daughter – saw the funny side.
