In the past, we read newspapers, magazines (hello, this week’s issue of Closer!) and books while we were sat on the loo.
But, in today’s day and age, our mobile phones are more likely to be our preferred option for bathroom reading material.
Which, as it turns out, is actually a really bad idea - and not just for all the terrible effects it can have on our health and wellbeing.
Nope, it’s also because it gives all those toilet pythons even LONGER to plot their attack on your tender nether regions.
Or so we, at least, imagine, after reading about this man’s encounter with a vicious bog snake.
Atthaporn Boonmakchuay was using his toilet yesterday at home when a python slithered up from the pipes and bit him.
On the penis.
According to Khaosod English, the snake refused to let go of the man’s genitals, resulting in a bloody bathroom battle.
His wife, Sawittree Shooyoung, eventually heard his screams for help and rushed to his aid.
The pair managed to unhinge the snake’s jaws from his penis and tie it to the bathroom door with a rope, before Atthaporn passed out from lack of blood.
The 38-year-old was rushed to hospital, while rescue workers entered his bathroom to deal with the aftermath.

The 12-foot-long snake was safely removed from the plumbing, and will be released back into the wild.
Meanwhile Atthaporn is recovering in hospital and now in a stable condition.
He even managed to raise a smile for reporters as he recalled what happened - mentioning that he took great care not to damage his own trouser snake in the bathroom battle.
While this event took place in Thailand, it’s definitely made us more wary of our own toilets.
