If you're a devoted Audrey Hepburn fan with an eye for a piece of fashion history (and a seriously healthy bank balance), you're in luck: items from the iconic actress's personal collection, including clothing and an annotated film script, will be auctioned at Christie's in London this September.
According to the world-famous auction house, the sale will feature ‘unique personal objects which have never before been seen on the market.’
Amongst the lots will be a letter from Breakfast at Tiffany’s author Truman Capote, an annotated script for the same film (complete with Hepburn’s turquoise-inked margin notes) and a cigarette lighter engraved with ‘For My Fair Lady,’ a gift from the film’s art director.
Also up for auction will be a Burberry trench coat (which bears more than a passing similarity to that worn by the actress in Breakfast at Tiffany’s tear-jerking final scene), ballet pumps and a blue satin cocktail dress by her trusted designer and close friend Hubert de Givenchy.
‘In an effort to include all who partake in these feelings for her, we have selected a collection of items to share with her ever-growing base of admirers,’ Hepburn’s sons Luca Dotti and Sean Hepburn Ferrer said.
‘We are honoured to entrust Christie’s with this sale and it is with great joy that we wish to share her spirit, through this sale and its related previews, with all who have enjoyed her films, her sense of style and followed her humanitarian legacy.’
The auction is set to take place at Christies on 27th September, while an online sale will remain open from 19th September until 3rd October. If you don’t have the financial firepower to take home a piece of Hepburn history, however, worry not: the public will be able to view the collection in an exhibition at the auction house from 23rd September.
