No, we can’t quite believe it either. Today marks an entire year since Beyoncé gave us the gift of mutli-award winning album, ‘Lemonade’.
Praised for celebrating African American culture and for empowering women across the globe, it comes as no surprise that it was recently named the best-selling album of 2016 by the International Federation of the Phonographic Industry.
And the singer celebrated the one year anniversary by launching ‘Formation Scholars’, a scholarship programme designed for girls and women in college.
The initiative will commence in time for the 2017-2018 academic year and proposes to ‘encourage and support young women who are unafraid to think outside the box and are bold, creative, conscious and confident’.
Four scholarships will be on offer to students studying creative arts, literature, African-American studies or music. The participating colleges include the Berklee College of Music, Parsons School of Design, Spelman College and Howard University.
And the singer garnered the support of former First Lady Michelle Obama. The founder of 'Let Girls Learn' took to Twitter to praise the initaitive, captioning the image: 'Always inspired by your powerful contributions Beyoncé. You are a role model for us all. Thank you for investing in our girls'.
